It’s amazing the effort it takes to get two kids ready for the first day of school. I’m not sure even NASA goes through this amount of pressure when trying to launch the space shuttle. But thankfully both girls had successful first days with the right supplies, clothing that fit, and lunches in hand (I did , however, make the rookie mistake of forgetting to pack a snack for my 2nd-grader — how lame is that).
Of course, as predicted, I completely lost it when Kendall walked through the gates for her first day of Kindergarten… I couldn’t even get many worthwhile pictures of her since I was so taken back by her self-confidence and sense of independence. I literally was standing there in awe of her. And when her teacher told the freshly-minted Kindergarteners to say goodbye to their parents, she barely glanced back, gave half a homecoming-queen wave to us and marched into the classroom. And my husband does what he does every year — he gave his weeping wife a loving hug and told her what she needed to hear… that this means that we’ve done our job well.
So begins another school year.
I have been shooting a lot more as of late, and as of right now I have 13 family portrait sessions scheduled. But my girls are still my favorite subject. These were shot at the park after the first week of school.
