Stop Shoulding all over yourself

Has it really been that long since I’ve had a post? Man… life certainly does get in the way, doesn’t it? I took what was a self-imposed “break” from my business due to several personal reasons. But boy have I missed it.

I will say that even thought the break wasn’t planned, it IS a good thing to get away from things for a bit to gain perspective on what it is you really WANT to be doing vs. what you feel you “SHOULD” be doing. Getting some distance is certainly awesome for some clarity, if nothing else. That said, I’m feeling quite overwhelmed by the “SHOULD’s” after being away (what was it I said about perspective again?). 🙂

Having a business doing something that you’re passionate about is an awesome thing. It’s a freakin’ GREAT thing. It’s a blessing on so many levels, and some days I can’t even believe my good fortune in finding my passion, even if it took me a while to truly embrace it as my own.

And the passion stuff is all fabulous. But what about the business stuff?

And that’s the part that I tend to get bogged down in. Do you know what the business side started to look like for me? It became all about the “SHOULD”.

Don’t get me wrong. I’m a realist. I get that a business needs to make money. I get that it involves things I MUST do. I worked in corporate America for 20 years. I get it.

But passions need breathing room. They need a certain care and feeding that a regular day-job doesn’t require. Passions need to be protected and appreciated. Not beat into the ground for a buck.

A very wise person told me that if you do what you love, the rest will just happen.

So I’m going to stop “SHOULDing” all over myself and just BE. The business stuff will get done, but the goal will be to keep my passion as my compass.

And now to leave you with a picture of our puppy. Because this particular puppy makes me very happy. 🙂
