Orange County has a few especially useful places to shop for baby gear, clothing, gifts and nursery pieces. I narrowed this list to stores and local businesses I could verify, so you are not driving across the county for a shop that is no longer there. 

 

1. Li’l Baby Sprouts in Newport Beach

Li’l Baby Sprouts is a helpful one-stop shop when you need more than baby clothes. The Newport Beach boutique carries strollers, car seats, feeding items, toys, gifts and clothing, and it also offers a baby registry. This is the place on the list I would start with if you want to compare larger baby items in person or build a registry without bouncing between several stores.

 

2. Kids Atelier at South Coast Plaza

Kids Atelier at South Coast Plaza carries designer clothing and accessories for babies and children. It is a useful option when you are shopping for a special outfit, a gift or something for an older sibling at the same time. The store is on Level 1 in the Din Tai Fung Wing.

 

3. Pottery Barn Baby at South Coast Plaza

For nursery furniture, bedding, storage and decor, Pottery Barn Baby and Pottery Barn Kids are both listed at South Coast Plaza. They are helpful when you want to see finishes, fabrics and scale in person before ordering. Both are on Level 3 in the Crate & Barrel Wing.

 

4. A Muffin in the Oven, an Orange County-based online shop

A Muffin in the Oven is an Orange-based online shop offering organic baby and toddler clothing, nursery essentials and gifts. I am including it as a local online option, not as a walk-in boutique. Check the website for current ordering and delivery details.

 

5. Along Came a Spider in Newport Beach

Along Came a Spider is a children’s boutique in Corona del Mar Plaza with clothing, shoes, accessories and gifts for babies and children. It is a good stop when you are looking for a baby shower gift or a special outfit and would rather shop in person than guess about fabric and sizing online.

 

6. Jolly Tots Kids Resale Boutique in Laguna Woods

 

Jolly Tots is worth knowing about if you need baby gear but do not necessarily want to buy everything new. The family-owned resale shop carries strollers, car seats, bassinets, high chairs, baby carriers, nursing items and other gear, with inventory changing frequently. The shop also states that it does not sell recalled items or expired car seats. Check its current inventory before making the drive because the best pieces can sell quickly.

For photographs, soft neutral tones and simple, timeless pieces tend to keep the attention on your baby. But please do not feel that you need to buy a special newborn-photo outfit.
