As a parent, I know firsthand how challenging it can be to find activities that keep young kids entertained while also engaging the whole family. Thankfully, Orange County is filled with incredible opportunities to create special memories with your little ones. From outdoor adventures to hands-on learning experiences, there’s truly something for everyone. Here are some of the best young kid-friendly activities in Orange County that I think your family will absolutely love.

Pretend City is truly a gem for young kids and families alike. This interactive museum is designed as a mini city where kids can explore different professions, from being a firefighter to a grocery store clerk. Watching your little one light up as they learn and grow here is pure magic. There are even designated areas for younger toddlers to safely explore, making it perfect for kids of all ages.

Irvine Regional Park is hands-down one of my favorite spots for a family outing. The park features a charming train ride that kids absolutely adore, pony rides, and playgrounds with plenty of space to run around. Pro tip: Bring snacks and extra energy — you’ll need both! Families can also enjoy paddle boats, a visit to the Orange County Zoo, or a relaxing picnic surrounded by nature.

Tanaka Farms is such a special place to visit. Whether it’s strawberry picking in the spring or exploring their famous pumpkin patch in the fall, this family-owned farm offers hands-on experiences that kids and parents will treasure. Don’t miss it — it’s a favorite for kids and a great way to learn about farm life.

Adventure Playground is one of those places where kids can just be kids. It’s a fantastic outdoor play area filled with climbing structures, water play zones, and sensory activities that spark curiosity and creativity. I’ll admit, I’ve seen many get soaked at the water play area while trying to keep up with their adventurous kiddos. It’s all part of the fun! Watching them explore and make new friends here is always such a joy.

The Great Park is home to one of Orange County’s most unique attractions — the iconic Great Park Balloon. While older kids and adults might enjoy the breathtaking views, younger kids will be thrilled with the carousel and open play spaces. It’s the perfect spot to pack a picnic, toss a frisbee, or just enjoy a relaxing afternoon outdoors. And honestly, watching the little one’s faces light up on the carousel never gets old.

Discovery Cube is a hit for both kids and parents. With interactive exhibits and hands-on activities, it’s a place where learning feels like play. Younger children will love the areas designed specifically for them, while older siblings (and even grown-ups) can dive into science experiments and creative displays. I love seeing curiosity spark as they explore — and I’ll admit, I’ve learned a thing or two there myself!

There’s something so special about introducing your kids to the wonders of marine life. The Pacific Marine Mammal Center allows families to get an up-close look at seals and sea lions while learning about marine conservation. It’s a wonderful way to combine fun and education, and the Laguna Beach backdrop makes it even more memorable.
Location: 88 Fair Dr, Costa Mesa, CA 92626
The OC Fair is such a highlight of the summer, but the event center also offers family-friendly activities year-round. During the fair, toddlers will love the rides, petting zoos, and live performances, while parents can indulge in delicious fair food and nostalgic games. It’s one of those outings where you leave with tired but happy kids—and maybe a funnel cake for the ride home.

Crystal Cove is hands down one of my favorite spots to relax and connect with nature. From exploring tide pools to building sandcastles, there’s so much for little ones to enjoy. The gentle hiking trails are perfect for a family stroll, and the stunning ocean views never disappoint. I always leave feeling refreshed and grateful for the time spent with my family.

If your kids love vehicles, the Laguna Beach Trolley is a must! This free trolley lets you hop on and off at various stops throughout the city, making it easy to explore shops, restaurants, and beaches. It’s a fun and laid-back way to see the sights.
There’s truly no shortage of incredible activities for young kids in Orange County. From hands-on museums to outdoor adventures, these outings are the perfect way to create lasting memories as a family.
