OC newborn photos for baby Mila were sweet, simple, and full of personality. Elizabeth and Andrew came from Laguna Nigel to Jennifer Imus Photography, my newborn photography studio in Tustin, California, with their 10-day-old baby girl, Mila.
Our session took place in February, and from the moment baby Mila arrived, she was wide-eyed and curious, soaking in the world around her. I always love when newborns are alert because it gives me the chance to capture their early personality. Plus, they joined my First Year Collective Membership, which means I get to document all the big baby milestones as she grows! Warms my heart as an Orange County newborn photographer!
For Mila’s OC newborn photos, we started with a soft blush floral setup. She was dressed in a light blush romper with the most beautiful texture. It had soft, layered tulle and tiny scattered florals. I paired it with a simple matching cream and blush headband to frame her face.

I laid her gently on her back with a slight turn to her side so we could move easily between profile and straight-on shots. She started out awake, those bright eyes looking right into the camera, and we just let that moment happen. As she began to relax, I made small adjustments.

From there, I worked through a few variations in that same setup. I brought her hands a little higher to frame her face, then shifted her slightly so one leg could peek through the layers of tulle.
That little bit of skin against the softness of the fabric adds so much contrast. I pulled back for a wider shot, letting the florals and textures surround her while keeping her as the focus.
We kept everything in the same color story but added just a bit of variation by adjusting how the outfit was styled. We did this by slightly loosening the layers, letting more of her arms show, then tucking things back in for a more polished look. I always move slowly here, making one small change at a time so she stays comfortable and settled.
I also made sure to capture detail shots while she was calm. Her tiny toes and sweet little hands.
Next we moved on to mom and baby shots. Mom wore that flowing blush floral dress, which photographed beautifully against the clean background. We started seated with baby wrapped in a simple white swaddle, held high against her chest. I had her look down first, then guided her into a few where she lifted baby slightly and smiled.
From there, we moved into a standing pose, where she gently rocked baby without even thinking about it. I captured a mix of her looking at baby and then up toward the camera.
Dad’s portion was clean and simple. He wore a dark, neutral tee, which adds contrast and keeps the focus right on baby. We started with him standing, holding baby out slightly in his hands for that modern, minimal look, then brought baby in close against his chest.
I guided his hands just enough for support, then had him shift his stance slightly to soften the frame. We also moved into a seated variation, where he leaned in and kissed baby’s head. I especially loved the photos of Andrew holding Mila in his hands because they show just how tiny she was.
To finish Mila’s OC newborn photos, we gathered everyone on the white futon. We captured some beautiful “lifestyle” moments of the three of them—Elizabeth and Andrew looking at Mila, and then a sweet shot of them sharing a kiss while holding their new daughter.
We used a classic, organic color palette to keep this session feeling bright and airy:
Soft Pink
Cream
White
Charcoal Grey
Light Khaki

For her wardrobe, Elizabeth chose a stunning long-sleeved, soft pink and coral floral pattern maxi dress from Morning Lavender, which is a beautiful piece available in my studio client closet.
Andrew opted for a classic, relaxed look with a charcoal grey t-shirt and light khaki pants. This neutral palette worked perfectly!
