This Newport Beach maternity session truly felt like a fairytale, from beginning to end. I think it was a combination of the gorgeous light, the beautiful trees and this beautiful couple. Sarah and Travis found me after seeing me at the Bump to Baby Expo at the District at Tustin Legacy. We connected immediately and booked their session shortly after. As an Orange County maternity photographer, I absolutely love getting into my local community to meet expecting moms and to partner with local resources that support this exciting time for them.
Only a few weeks after the Expo, they made short trip from Newport Beach to my motherhood photography studio in Old Town Tustin, California. My photography studio serves families throughout Orange County, especially Newport Beach and nearby communities.
This Orange County maternity session took place in mid-February when Sarah was at 30 weeks in her pregnancy.
Sarah’s Orange County Maternity Session at 30 Weeks
Sarah is model-gorgeous and I knew she was going to absolutely shine in front of the camera. And I was right. She met me at my studio a week before her session to choose her dress from my client wardrobe. We wanted to put her in a dress that felt ethereal and something that felt earthy but beautiful to go with the gorgeous location we chose.
The Beauty of the Forest and Grasses
This location consists of open fields, gorgeous hills, tall grasses, beautiful and lush trees and (sometimes) vibrant flowers. At this time of year, most of the flowers were already past their bloom, though we were able to find a few of the tiny daisy flowers in small patches throughout the grassy fields.
I moved Sarah and Travis through many parts of the location with my favorite with them close to the trees that served as both shade and a framing canopy in the final images. We also took quite a few shots in the wide open fields with the grasses that were just on the verge of changing colors. I was able to find a few of the daisy flowers in both yellow and white for Sarah to hold in some of her poses in the field.
Our final shots were of the couple lying on the ground in the tall, dry grasses with Sarah leaning into Travis and them taking a moment to relax and take it all in.
A Neutral Color Palette for This Orange County Maternity Session
Every expecting mom gets to choose from my client wardrobe of gorgeous dresses, and Sarah chose my favorite white gown with tiny, white, fuzzy, leafy details on the bodice. It’s truly a one-of-a-kind gown that shined during this shoot!
To compliment Sarah’s wardrobe, Travis wore a causal, white, short-sleeved shirt paired with light khaki pants that worked perfectly against the greens in the location.
This shoot was the definition of earthy, neutrals where the wardrobe complimented the location perfectly!

Focus on the Couple with Connection and Details
This Orange County maternity session included a mix of individual portraits of mom-to-be, Sarah, and connection-focused images with her husband, Travis. We started with standing poses that highlighted her baby bump from a variety of angles, incorporating both full-length portraits and closer images. As the session progressed, we brought in Travis for a series of natural, relaxed poses with hands on her belly, gentle embraces, and quiet moments together.
To create variety throughout the gallery, we moved between the green wooded areas and the open golden field, capturing both wide environmental portraits and more intimate close-ups. We also included a few seated poses that allowed for some beautiful quiet moments, along with detail images of their hands and baby bump.
The result is a gallery that balances beautiful maternity portraits with intimate moments between two very excited parents-to-be.
