Baby Evelyn’s Orange County Newborn Session

We had so much fun during this sweet Orange County newborn session for baby Evelyn. There is nothing I love more than a personal referral, and mom Priscilla reached out to me after her sister booked me for her own studio newborn session. As an Orange County newborn photographer, I love getting to see families come back through sisters, friends, and personal referrals.

Two weeks later, Priscilla and dad Konstantine, made the short trip from Irvine to Jennifer Imus Photography, my newborn photography studio in Tustin, California. My newborn photography studio serves families throughout Orange County, including Irvine and nearby communities.

This Orange County newborn session took place at the end of July when baby Evelyn was just two weeks old.

Baby Evelyn’s Orange County Newborn Session at Two Weeks Old

Baby Evelyn was the perfect summer baby—calm, sleepy, and perfectly snuggly from start to finish. Mom and Dad arrived with a relaxed energy that truly set the tone for the day. When parents arrive feeling calm and prepared, it always helps the newborn settle in more quickly, and little Evelyn was a dream to work with.

For the individual portraits in Evelyn’s Orange County newborn session, we began with a simple white swaddle, which beautifully highlighted her face while she was still awake.

We moved onto a soft blush setup once Sophia was fully settled, and this is where everything slowed down even more. I started her gently on her side with her hands tucked under her cheek, keeping the wrap loose enough to show those tiny fingers.

From there, I rotated her slightly onto her back so we could capture a clean, straight-on sleeping portrait. A small headband added just enough detail without taking away from her face. I always make tiny adjustments here.

Smoothing the wrap, tucking the fingers just right, turning her chin a fraction so the light falls perfectly across her features.

From there, I shifted her back onto her side and brought in a little more texture with that soft, fuzzy blush layer. This gave us a slightly different feel while still keeping everything cohesive. We captured a few tighter crops here too.

Her profile, the curve of her cheek, those tiny lips. Then I swapped in a soft green wrap for just a bit of variation. Same pose, same calm feel, but a completely different look. It’s always about building a gallery that feels full without ever feeling repetitive.

The Sweetest Detail Shots and Final Baby Portraits

I always make time for detail shots, and this session was no exception. A tiny hand curled in, those perfect little feet, the softest skin. These are the images that round everything out. They may not be the main portraits, but they’re the ones parents come back to over and over again.

Mom and Dad love the color sage! So I put together a custom set for this Orange County newborn session- a sage green swaddle and a larger floral pink headband with green accents to match!

For the final family portraits, we swaddled Evelyn in a light coral wrap that coordinated perfectly with the floral patterns on Mom’s dress. We finished the session on the white futon, taking advantage of the soft light of the bright and airy window.

A Soft Summer Color Palette for This Orange County Newborn Session

Every client that books with me has the opportunity to pre-select their color preferences! I loved the palette this sweet family chose for their Orange County newborn session!

  • White
  • Creamy light yellow
  • Soft pink
  • Fuchsia
  • Sage green
  • Light coral
  • Light khaki

For her wardrobe, Priscilla browsed the studio client closet and chose a gorgeous, creamy light-yellow Morning Lavender dress with delicate pink floral accents. She paired the look with adorable sandals and chose to keep her beautiful, curly hair natural, which added such a soft, organic feel to the portraits.

We captured some stunning moments of mom cradling baby Evelyn on my vintage chair and lounging on the white futon, taking advantage of the soft textures and natural light in the studio.

Konstantine opted for a classic look with light khaki pants and a crisp white button-down shirt. This neutral palette was a great choice, as it allowed the focus to remain entirely on his new daughter rather than a busy outfit.

We did most of Dad’s solo shots standing to capture that “protective dad” feel, with a few relaxed poses on my elegant cream-colored bench.

Evelyn’s First Photos as a Family of Three

For mom’s part of this Orange County newborn session, we kept natural. We started seated with Sophia held upright against her chest, capturing that close, almost protective hold. Then I guided her to bring Sophia into more of a cradle, allowing us to see both of their faces.

From there, we moved into standing again, where mom gently supported her with one arm underneath and one across her back. I always encourage a soft sway here, just enough movement to keep everything feeling real. We captured a mix of her looking at the camera and those quiet moments where she just looked down at her.

The photos of mom with Evelyn in the vintage armchair are, by far, my favorite shots from the session. From the shots of the top of Evelyn’s head, to her snuggled in mom’s neck, to tucked under her chin, they became the favorites from the finished gallery.

We transitioned back to the futon to finish out mom’s portion. I had her sit first, then lean slightly back so Sophia could rest fully against her. From there, we shifted into a more reclined position, legs extended, baby nestled in close.

These shots feel a little more relaxed and open. We finished with a few wider frames here, pulling back just enough to show the full scene while still keeping that soft, minimal look.

Dad, Couple, and Family Portraits With Evelyn

With dad, we kept the flow simple and consistent. We started with him standing, holding Sophia out slightly in his hands for a clean, modern portrait. Then we brought her back in close against his chest for something more connected. From there, we moved him onto the futon where he sat with Sophia resting comfortably in his arms. We captured a mix of him looking at her and then up toward the camera, keeping everything calm and natural.

For mom and dad together, I brought mom in close so they could sit side by side. We started with them both looking down at Sophia, then shifted into a few where they looked at each other. Those small interactions always add so much depth. From there, we widened out slightly to give the image a bit more breathing room while still keeping that connection front and center.

We wrapped with full family shots on the futon to keep everything cohesive. Everyone seated, close together. We started with a clean, straight-on portrait, then let things relax a bit.
