Orange County newborn portraits for 10-day-old baby Beckham were such a sweet way to start the Thanksgiving season. Beckham and his parents, Kyle and Crystal, came from San Clemente to Jennifer Imus Photography, my newborn photography studio in Tustin, California. As an Orange County newborn photographer, I loved capturing all the firsts of their new family of three, especially since they were already part of my First Year Collective and excited for the full portrait experience.
My newborn photography studio serves families throughout Orange County, including San Clemente and nearby communities. We spent the morning in my relaxed, bright and airy studio creating Orange County newborn portraits of Beckham and his new family of three.
We started on his solo photos while mom was getting her hair and makeup done.
I started with Beckham loosely wrapped in a white swaddle on a white backdrop to capture him quickly while his eyes were still open. I moved on to a loose white wrap so I could free up his tiny hands and feet for some adorable detail shots..
I moved in close right away, focusing on the little things first. Tiny fingers curled in near the face, lips relaxed. From there, I shifted slightly to capture baby stretched gently under the blanket, letting the feet peek through for a different perspective. These early shots are all about slowing down and noticing the details.
As baby stayed nice and sleepy, I rotated into a few more variations without changing much. A small turn of the head, bringing one arm up near the face, adjusting the blanket just enough to reveal a little more shape.
I added a simple knit bonnet for one look, which frames the face beautifully without taking away from it. Then we moved into a side-lying pose with baby tucked in close, keeping everything soft and natural.
I always make sure to get a mix of wider and tighter detail shots here. Little feet pressed together, tiny hands wrapped in, the curve of the fingers.

Thankfully, he was sleepy enough that I was able to get him into a taupe colored diaper cover and a droopy hat for some tummy shots and back rolls. His final wrap was a white swaddle for his family shots.
When we brought parents in, we kept the flow very connected and relaxed. We started with both of them seated close together, baby resting across their arms. I had them lean in toward each other and look down at baby first, which instantly creates that intimate feel.
From there, we added in a few where they looked at each other, then back at baby, building those layers of connection without overcomplicating it.
We pulled back into a wider shot on the futon to give the image a little more breathing room. Both of them relaxed into the space, baby still cradled between them. This is where everything feels a bit more lifestyle, a little less structured, but still very intentional.

Dad had his own moment as well. We started with him standing, holding baby securely in his arms, then shifted into a more cradled position. I guided his hands slightly, but kept everything natural. There’s always that steady, protective feel that comes through here.
We captured a mix of him looking down at baby and then up toward the camera for a clean portrait.
For mom, we moved into a seated setup with her on the stool, which gives a slightly different look from the futon. Baby was laid across her lap first, then brought up into her arms. We captured her looking down, smiling softly, then a few where she looked up.
From there, she naturally settled into a gentle rocking motion, which always creates the most beautiful in-between frames.
We finished with a few more relaxed parent moments. Dad holding baby stretched gently across his hands, mom adjusting baby in close, both of them leaning in without needing much direction. These final images always feel the most effortless.
The whole flow of Beckham’s Orange County newborn portraits stayed super calm and their photos reflected that!
We used a classic color palette for these Orange County newborn portraits- perfect for baby boys!
Mom made full use of my client wardrobe, choosing a gorgeous sage green dress from Baltic Born that brought everything together. We moved from standing shots, to sitting on my cream bench, to snuggling on the futon with Beckham. We captured all the tender moments and snuggles, with the highlights being mom’s sweet smile while looking down at baby.
Dad wore a blue button-down shirt and khaki pants, which photographed really well against the light backdrop. We did a mix of him holding Beckham in his arms and a few closer shots with Beckham resting along his forearm.
Beckham stayed asleep through all of this, which made it easy to move between setups.
